The content of the Great Southern Road travel book is influenced by the road history and rally events which took place along the Australian southern borders. There is a special focus on the famous 1968 and 1993 events of the London to Sydney Marathons . The Great Southern Road travel book page spreads are dedicated to towns and roadhouse settlements along the route of the Great Southern Road, from Western Australia then through South Australia , Victoria and New South Wales. We have endeavoured to include as much information about each particular location as we can. The information includes a little bit of history from the time of settlement, the population according to the 2021 census, derivation of town names, including English translations from the indigenous languages and some history of Australia's First Nations people. We also include tourist attractions along the route and nearby, as well as some of the famous events which occurred in each area.
